Canadian Christmas Tree Growers Association Spreading Holiday Cheer from Coast to Coast.

The Canadian Christmas Tree Growers Association have pledged to donate thousands of trees to Canadian military bases in every province by December 7th, 2007. These trees are to ensure that the families of soldiers who are currently serving overseas can enjoy a real Christmas tree for the holiday season.

"Christmas time can be a very trying time for families, especially when they're missing a close family member. We initiated this program to try and spread some Christmas spirit during what can be a very difficult time of the year for many Canadian families. We want them and their families to know that we care and appreciate what they are doing for our country," said Larry Downey, President of the Canadian Christmas Tree Growers Association.

Members of the association are either donating trees or are fundraising for the cause, called Real Evergreens for Afghanistan Canadian Troops, (REACT) in order to cover shipping costs. Any additional money will go towards the families of Canadian troops serving overseas. "Through our fundraising efforts, we hope to raise enough money to see that the children of these families have a good Christmas, in spite of being away overseas," says Josie Wintersinger, of Wintersinger's Tree Farm in Ontario who is donating $1 from every tree sold at her farm this year. Customers may donate whatever they wish to this product, or donate their $2 coupon.

This is the first year of the program; however the association plans to make it an annual occurrence. Public donations are welcome at any CCTGA member farm. To find your local CCTGA grower, please call 1-888-554-7554 or www.christmastree.net.
